Here’s to a New Year and fresh era. Two thousand and nineteen is a three-year in numerology. Three is the archetype of the performer, a year to be creative and allow your personal expression to flow freely. It’s time to take centre stage and be seen in the lead role of your life.
Last year focused on relationships, both external and internal. There was a lot of learning to be done as we dwelled in our Sacral Chakra to figure out who we are to ourselves and how this relates to others.
Moving up now to the energy of the Solar Plexus, the individual who has a voice and energy of its own. We are less dependent on others and are learning to stand on our own feet. There will still be a supporting cast to assist along the way, but we will be driving the bus. This year is not a time to stay small and hidden or following the crowd. If you have been feeling the pull to step out of old patterns or ways of living or maybe have a whole life makeover this is the year to do it. You will be well supported in your efforts if you do by the power of the three energy.
It might be scary at first, especially on the build up to taking the first step. There will be nerves present as you about to take a road unknown but use it as positive resistance. Remember the pendulum swings backwards before it moves forward. Tap into the excitement of the project to keep the momentum rolling.
I’m feeling some nerves myself at present. If you are reading this post, you will have met my new website and branding. To completely rebrand and build a new site was daunting. Especially with my background in brand design and the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ theory. (This was the title to my design Honours degree dissertation.) My old brand is working just fine, why change it?
My original brand, website and blog were launched in February 2013, nearly six years ago. A lot has happened over six years, and I felt the pull for a freshen up. I’ve witnessed a lot of businesses, including my mentors and peers already moving from a ‘brand name’ to using their name as their brand. This approach makes so much sense, total transparency and people know who they are dealing with when your brand is your name.
Backtracking to when I branded as Seren Holistic Lifestyles. There is a story behind the name Seren, it means ‘star’ and was the name of a pony I shared when I lived in London. It had sentimental as well as spiritual meaning. At the time I branded I was very into the TV show Gossip Girl and the mystic of having a pseudonym, this was the trend back then too. Maybe it was my way of staying anonymous while I came out the ‘spiritual woo-woo’ closet.
The pseudonym didn’t last long. I also realised to build an authentic audience you need to be transparent, people want to know who they are connecting with. Especially as I was advertising workshops and in-person healing sessions. I couldn’t be anonymous and run live events.
Towards the middle of last year, August to be precise, I felt a niggle it was time to re-brand. Back in 2013, I aimed to build a Reiki and metaphysical business around my Seren blog and website. This site has gone from strength to strength and it primarily Reiki based. Six years ago I only taught one style of yoga, and it took care of itself as I was employed through studios. I wasn’t doing any independent yoga events, therefore, I didn’t need any personal marketing.
I received guidance in a psychic mentoring session that asked me ‘what will you do when you’re not teaching Bikram yoga anymore?’ At the time I was horrified, I’d always be teaching this one style of yoga. Now I can see the greater truth in it.
Once I retrained in Yin Yoga (my absolute passion as it blends in beautifully with Reiki) and then vinyasa the yoga side of my business took off. Many doors opened, and my creative juices went into overdrive. My fire it well and truly lit. I’m still incredibly passionate about Reiki and healing but now is the time to expand on my yoga.
I added a few extra pages onto my Seren website for my yoga classes, events and retreats. Having everything in one place has worked until now and made sense. I feel my yoga side needs it’s own space to grow and flourish, just like the Reiki did when it was stand alone. Keeping everything tidy, clean and simple. Branding 101! Hopefully, I won’t get students turning up for a Reiki training weekend expecting a yoga class now 😉 Yes, this did happen once. There could be fusion later down the line for sure, but the marketing will be extra clear!
Hence a shiny new logo and brand. As you can see I have used my name in a way. People know me as Yoga Kat because it is my car number plate. It made so much sense that this would be my yoga brand. It’s sort, snappy and to the point. Kat Yoga wasn’t going to work as I’m sure I’d get inundated by inquiries about cat yoga. (It’s a thing, yoga with real-life kittens) The purple and grey colours match my yoga props, and I’ve kept the typeface similar to Seren to represent the flow, soft edges and freedom yoga encourages.
Seren Holistic Lifestyles is still alive and kicking and will sit side by side as a sister site for all things Reiki. I know it might get a bit confusing, but Seren will be holding up the Reiki flag a while longer.
This year is about going the extra mile and extending ourselves further than ever. I felt it is the perfect time to have a makeover and create something new so here I am. Yoga Kat is born and ready for action.
Is there a new start you are pursuing this year? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
Until next time,
